Harper Valley PTA Billy Ray Cyrus (Jeannie C. Riley)

INTRO:  |[G][D][G]

I wanna [G]tell you all a story 'bout a Harper Valley widowed wife
Who had a [C]teenage daughter who attended Harper Valley Junior High.
Well, her [G]daughter came home one afternoon and didn't even stop to play,
And she said, [C]"Mama, got a note here from the [D]Harper Valley [G]PTA."

Well, [G]the note said, "Mrs. Johnson, you're wearin your dresses way too high.
It's [C]reported you've been drinkin and a-runnin' round with men and goin' wild,
And we [G] don't believe you oughta be a-bringing up your little girl this way."
And it was [C]signed by [D]"The Secretary, [G]Harper Valley PTA".

[solo]

Well, it [G]happened that the PTA was gonna meet that very afternoon,
And [C]they were sure surprised when Mrs. Johnson wore her miniskirt into the room.
And as  [G]she walked up to the blackboard I can still recall the words she had to say;
She said, [C]"I'd like to address this meeting of the [D]Harper Valley PTA."[G...A]

"Well there's [A]Bobby Taylor sitting there, and seven times he's asked me for a date.
And Mrs. [D]Taylor sure seems to use a lot of ice whenever he's away.
And Mr. [A]Baker, can you tell us why your secretary had to leave this town?
And shouldn't [D]widow Jones be told to keep her [A]window shades all pulled [E]completely down."

"Well, Mr. [A]Harper couldn't be here 'cause he stayed too long at Kelly's bar again.
And if you [D]smell Shirley Thompson's breath, you'll find she's had a little nip of gin.
And then you [A]have the nerve to tell me, you think that as a mother I'm not fit.
Well, this is [D]just a little Peyton Place and [E]you're all Harper Valley [A]hypocrites."

No, I  [A] wouldn't put you on because it really did, it happened just this way;
The day my  [D]mama socked it to the  [E]Harper Valley  [A]PTA;
The day my [D]mama socked it to the [E]Harper Valley [A]PTA.
