Artist: The Elms
Album: Big Surprise
Song: Lifeboat
Written by: Owen Thomas

Intro: D/F# G Bm A
All Verses and Bridge is D/F# G Bm A. During the verses he
is mostly just picking out notes. the pattern isnt too hard, just
listen and you'll get it.
Verse 1:
When I am scared, You are my Father.
When I can't breathe, You are the air.
And when I can't swim, You are my lifeboat.
When I'm tired and weary You are there.
Chorus:
D/F# A D/F# G
And my times get high, my times get low.
D/F# G A D
You always let me in on all that You know
D/F# A D/F# G
I could give You time alone and then
D/F# G A D
You'd only come and ask me "where have you been?"
Verse 2:
When I am weak, You are my shoulders.
When I am poor, You give me a hand.
And when I can't swim, You are my lifeboat.
You carry me to dry land
Verse 3:
And when I'm not sure, You are my maker.
Speaking words that keep me aware.
And when I can't swim, You are a lifeboat.
When I'm tired and weary You are there.

In the first verse, he sings "a lifeboat," not "my lifeboat."
In the first verse, he sings "When I can't swim" not "And when I can't swim"
In the verses, I would tend to play A2 instead of A, and Bm/B instead of Bm. If
you play this, it sounds cool (X means don't play that string, and - means cover
up that string and don't play it), and obviously you want to put the emphasis
on the notes on your low E string:
D2/F# G Bm/B A2

For the first two "D/F#" in the chorus, I would tend to play "D2/F#" instead.
Same with the fourth and fifth.
In the second verse it's "When I'm poor" instead of "When I am poor"
In the second verse it's "You are a lifeboat" instead of "You are my lifeboat"
In the third verse he sings "When I'm not sure" instead of "And when..." |
