Artist: Thousand Foot Krutch
Song: Faith, Love, And Happiness
Album: Phenomenon
Tuning: Drop D

First off, huge thanks to the admin for TFK guitar tabs! I've submitted a
lot of tabs lately and I've never had to wait for them to appear on the site.
Big Thanks!

The main riff in this song has a pretty fast pace and you need a bit of
experience to be able to nail it perfect. The trickiest part is in the end of
the main riff where you have to switch fast between a palm muted D#5 chord and
a D# octave an octave higher. It's hard, but you can do it if you're fast. You
can replace those palm mutings with scratchings if you want to make it easier.

The song uses two guitars. One is the Rhythm Guitar that plays with distortion
through the whole song. The second is the Lead Guitar that only appears in the
choruses and in the bridge.

x = Scratching (Heavy muting to get a cool "dead" sound)
x in octaves = Mute string completely so you can't hear it at all
P.M. or ... = Palm Muting

D|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
(The Lead Guitar's rhythm might look a little strange here, because there's a
lot of 10 notes which messes up the tabbing. I've tabbed the Lead Guitar to
be synchronized with the Rhythm Guitar, so the Lead Guitar starts playing at
the third and sixth chord strike of the Rhythm Guitar for the first two
chords, then the Lead Guitar follows the same rhythm as the Rhythm Guitar.)

Chorus

Main Riff x2 (Same as intro)

That's all! I love this song, just like I love all the other TFK songs. I love
TFK. There is nothing more to say really. TFK ROCKS!!!
God Bless,
Daniel

I just got a 4. I'm happy with that, but I just wonder if you have any corrections to make it better. I want to make my tabs as near perfect as possible, so if you could tell me anything I did wrong I'd be gratefull for that. Thank you.
Dani_Boy - 2006-04-18
I didn't really mean I only got a 4, I meant I just now got a 4. Just wanted to say that I'm not ungrateful for a 4, it might have sounded like that. But I still would like to know what I can improve.
ice_wiz - 2006-04-19
In the chorus it just seems to me it should be
5-5-5 5-8-5
5-5-5 5-8-5
5-5-5... and so on, instead of 5-8-5... Really good job on the intro though I knew there was something missing in it!( It was the -3-)

Dani_Boy - 2006-04-19
What, you mean this part?

G|-----------|
D|--5--8--5--|
A|--5--8--5--| yeah, I think it's off, now
D|--5--8--5--| that I listen to it again.

How about this then?

G|-----------|
D|--5--8--5--|
A|--5--5--5--|
D|--5--5--5--|

It's not pure G5 chords all the way anyway. Tell me what you think.
ice_wiz - 2006-04-20
That sounds good
akaukal - 2006-05-01
no it sounds for sure pure G5 chords. there is an awesome version of this song on ultimateguitar.com, so if anyone wants an amazing one go there.
akaukal - 2006-05-01
srry i meant the
e------
b------
g------
D-5-5-5
A-5-5-5
D-5-5-5
that's how it goes
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-01
I'll check it out.
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-01
It's weak, but somethings there. It's not pure G5 chords.

I do think it is
G|-----------|
D|--5--8--5--|
A|--5--5--5--|
E|--5--5--5--|

Or something like that. Apart from that though, can you find any other mistakes?
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-02
Well, the one at www.ultimate-guitar.com is not all that great. Really, he misses out the Lead Guitar the octaves and everythings all messed up. Sorry, but I got a bit amazed that it wasn't any better than that.

Really, apart from the chorus, where do I have mistakes? I'm just curious. I can't find anything wrong else than a few things in the chorus. I'd just like to know how I can improve it, that's all.
ice_wiz - 2006-05-02
Yeah, it's definately not a three... I found a mistake in the verse this part
|5---|
|--88|
|----| Doesn't quite sound right
ice_wiz - 2006-05-02
OH, whoops it goes the other way one eight two fives.
akaukal - 2006-05-02
I'm just wondering where you're getting this lead guitar. I've listened to the song a billion times looking for what you put. When I play with the song it sounds like it could fit there, but i don't hear it actually in the song. Dunno maybe just me...
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-02
Ice_wiz:
I think it is played like that. Listen to the timing of the notes, listen to the pitch. I don't know if mine's in perfect timing now that I look at it, but try it after listening to that part. You can do a slide into the next chord if you want, that sounds kinda cool.

Akaukal:
Yes, there is definitely a Lead Guitar. You hear the Lead Guitar A LOT better in The Art of Breaking, in Phenomenon it's sorta hidden, but I know it's there. It's got a slightly odd, hollow, non present sound, yet it's not to different so it sorta blends in. Listen to Step To Me at 0:16-0:20 of the intro/pre-verse. There you can hear both guitars in action. Rhythm playes one thing with distortion while the Lead Guitar adds on an entirely different little octave riff in the background. Listen carefully, listen many times.

The Lead Guitar for Phenomenon mostly uses this hollow type of sound, and it mostly plays octaves. Once you start hearing and becoming more familiar with it's sound, you'll discover it a lot easier in the different songs. In some songs it's got a bright sound, like in Rawkfist. There it adds natural harmonics to the verses and this special chord in the solo.

As for Faith, Love, And Happiness it does this little soft thing in the chorus with one sound, then it uses the same kind of sound like Step To Me Lead in the bridge. It plays octaves, it sorta answers the Rhythm Guitar. Look at my tab while listening and I think you'll hear it.
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-03
Ice_wiz, try this:
G|------------------------------|
D|--5-------8-----5-8-------10--|
A|--5-----------5-5-8-------10--|
D|--5-------------5-8-------10--|

and so on. Replace the last 5 note with a gentle chord. I think it sounds better that way.
akaukal - 2006-05-03
I listened for what you said, but I still couldn't hear it! Maybe my ears are broken.....
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-03
Did you listen to Step To Me at 0:16-0:20? Listen again. The Rhythm Guitar is really easy to notice, it plays this traditional riff:

G|-----------------------|
D|--10-10-10-10-9-7-5-7--|
A|--10-10-10-10-9-7-5-7--|
D|--10-10-10-10-9-7-5-7--|

With me so far? Listen carefully, and in the background a very hollow, pretty distorted Lead Guitar plays this, listen to get the exact rhythm:

G|--------7777---5555444-|
D|--------xxxx---xxxxxxx-|
A|--------5555---3333222-|
D|-----------------------|

So first listen to the Rhythm Guitar, then listen again while you try to filter it away and listen to what's in the background. This sounds really complicated, but really, it's two guitars there. And the Lead plays a hollow sound using octaves. Hope you'll hear it :)
akaukal - 2006-05-04
I'm not sure... like I said it fits like it should be there, but I can't here it. I tried using a complicated fade out device of my friends to fade out the rhythm guitar, but I still didn't here anything. I think what you're hearing is just some kind of echo or something off the rhythm guitar.
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-05
No, I'm not. I'm not. It's a specific guitar sound and it plays very differently from the Rhythm Guitar, so it's not an echo. Plus, TFK's got two guitars, they use two guitars on all their albums. Sorry to disagree with you, but there is a Lead Guitar there.
ice_wiz - 2006-05-08
akaukal - I didn't here it at first but after you listen to for a while you'll here it. In the chorus where the G5 chords go in between them see if you can hear it. That's how I heard it.
Te eF Kay - 2006-05-12
Ive got to try this!
akaukal - 2006-05-13
They do not use 2 guitars on every single song. I'm sure of that. Most of the songs you tabbed from Phenomenon do have lead guitar just not all of them. This song is one that doesn't and I'm sure of that.
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-13
Ouch, I'm really sure that they have a Lead Guitar on this song. That faint thing in between the G5 chords are in a different sound and quite impossible to squeeze in with the Rhythm Guitar. In the bridge you hear soft octaves being played with a slightly different sound. You can play everything with only one guitar except for a few places where an octave and a chord is played at the same time. I'm 100% sure of these things. There are not many things I can say I'm 100% sure of, but wiht this I am. There is TWO guitars in this song.

At about 1:48 and 1:58/1:59 you can hear an octave and a chord being played at the same time, the octave having much lower volume. And in the entire section 2:00-2:09 the Rhythm Guitar plays a constant strumming of chords, while Lead Guitar adds octaves in a completely different rhythm. That is totally impossible to play with one guitar. So I'm sorry, but you're wrong, it is two guitars. I don't mean to sound like a "know-it-all", but I'm sure of this.
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-13
I can agree on that every single song doesn't use Lead Guitar though. But still, I think the only one without Lead Guitar I've noticed is The Krutch Anthem (Get This Party Started).
Te eF Kay - 2006-05-14
set it off doesnt use 2 guitars.
and how come this has a 4?
I went through the whole thing and couldnt find a bad note!
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-15
Thanks, Te eF Kay! You did see my corrections though, did you?

Replace the 8 fretted chords in the chorus with this:
G|-----|
D|--8--|
A|--5--|
D|--5--|
You might even wanna hammer on the eight note from playing a pure G5 chord. It's an opinion of taste. It's not pure G5's all the way though, I'm sure of that.

Also in the second verse, play like this:
G|------------------------------|
D|--5-------8-----5-8-------10--|
A|--5-----------5-5-8-------10--|
D|--5-------------5-8-------10--|

|------------------------------7-8-5--|
|--5-------8-----5-8-------1---x-x-x--|
|--5-----------5-5-8-------1---5-6-3--|
|--5-------------5-8-------1----------|
You get it, just replace those last 5 fretted notes with full G5 chords, it's sounds a little better.

Other than that I can't find anything wrong either. Thanks again, Te eF Kay. Would you guys wanna check I Climb and New Design for me? I can't really find any mistakes, still the ratings are not all that super good. I've only got the intro and verse stuff on Last Words left, other than that I've tabbed the entire album of Phenomenon. I'm looking foward to putting up a Phenomenon album tab, hope it'll be phenomenal! ;)
akaukal - 2006-05-15
Okay, I heard what you're hearing and I'm not sure this is pure guitar. It sounds to me like digitized guitar(comes on every keyboard) with a really quick delay time. I'm still only 60% sure about this theory, but I'm investigating. I can actually replicate it almost exactly on my keyboard. However, this could be a real guitar loaded with fx and stuff like that. I guess it doesn't matter anyways...
akaukal - 2006-05-15
oh, and in the pre-chorus, the rhythm and lead guitar can be played with the same guitar. That's how I play it, and I don't think it's a different guitar.
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-15
Pre-chorus? I've never said anything about playing the Lead Guitar in any other parts than the chorus (Your theory could be true by the way, interesting) and the bridge. If you mean that you can play both guitars in the bridge it's almost completely true. That's what I usually do too. The only thing is that the Lead is fainter than the Rhythm Guitar, and in the ending part of the bridge both guitars play.

Most of the bridge is possible with one guitar though, you're right. But I still believe they use both guitars. You can't change my opinion on that =P lol
akaukal - 2006-05-15
sorry i said pre-chorus. i meant bridge.
akaukal - 2006-05-15
And i've moved to about 75% sure about my theory after trying a few things today. Another thing that would lead me to believe this is that Phenomenon is full of FX.
ice_wiz - 2006-05-16
Is is full of them... You didn't know that?
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-16
Yeah, I like the channel shifting effects they use for some scratching in Step To Me, which they also use in the second verse of Rawkfist. Sounds so cool!
akaukal - 2006-05-16
of course i knew there were lots of FX in Phenomenon ice_wiz. I just said that. When I go to the concert June 17 i'm going to watch every movement of the guitarist and see what he does. then i can see if my theory is right.
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-16
Good, it's nice with some "inside information" ;D
ice_wiz - 2006-05-16
Oh, I thought you were 75% certain that they use a lot of FX. Sorry, my mistake.
ice_wiz - 2006-05-16
One more thingn akaukul in concert they only use one guitar, not that I've been to one of there shows, it's just that if you go to youtube.com and watch them live only Jamie is playing not Trev'.
tl_guitarnut - 2006-05-16
mysterious, how does jamie play two guitar parts?
ice_wiz - 2006-05-17
He doesn't, they only use one guitar in concert go to http://youtube.com/watch?v=5icJtUPt_Qk&search=thousand%20foot%20krutch , Jamie doesn't even play the solo the seeing them in concert might not be as great without the solos.
akaukal - 2006-05-17
oh, i'm sure he'll play the solo's. I just don't think TFK would get a good response if they didn't and i'm sure they know that.
ice_wiz - 2006-05-17
Did you go to the URL?
akaukal - 2006-05-18
Yes, but that looks like an eariler concert to me.
ice_wiz - 2006-05-18
There singing Stranger, It would have to be on the Art of Breakign tour.
akaukal - 2006-05-19
I know, I mean an earlier concert of The Art Of Breaking tour. Hey everyone, check out my 3 new TFK tabs. Come Along, Set it Off, and Up Comes Down!
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-19
Sure, I'll check them out! By the way, I watched one YouTube thing where they played Phenomenon, and you could hear both guitars. Trevor wasn't playing. So I think they might have an additional guitarist that jumps in at concerts.
tl_guitarnut - 2006-05-19
Yes, I think they might
Dani_Boy - 2006-05-20
It was pretty funny on that YouTube thing I saw. Two guys in the crowd were doing shadow figures on the wall behind TFK. There was a bunch of lighting on the wall, so you could see their "shadow show" pretty nicely. :)
ice_wiz - 2006-05-20
I hope your right guys about the soloing and second guitars. I guess can't really see them not doing the solos, they'd get booed pretty bad.
akaukal - 2006-05-20
yeah your right about that, ice_wiz.
akaukal - 2006-07-11
At the concert, Jamie played this for the beginning of the Chorus:
e--------
b--------
g-7------
D-5-8-5--
A-5-5-5--
D-5-5-5--

That's what I saw.
ice_wiz - 2006-07-11
Ah, yes that does sound right. I knew it wasn't G5 chords all the way through.
