Ok, alotta people seem to be getting this song wrong, so here is the way
Martin Smith really plays it

If you want to play it in the key of E, put your capo on 2nd fret and play it in D
in the album version, he plays it in the key of F.. which is capo 3 in key of D
but it's really hard to sing in the key of F, so just play it in E or D, God bless!
