I think he might mean thats how he is fingerpicking it. Correct me if im wrong.

It's the guitar riff intro (listen to the CD again). In the notations, it's marked as a D with a hammer-on the third fret, but you're only barely on the D before you hammer the 3rd fret. It should sound like a slide, but a quick hammer-on does the trick.
